MasterChef star Poh Ling Yeow shares harrowing details of her tragic miscarriage

Poh Ling Yeow has revealed the tragic details after she suffered a miscarriage. 

The MasterChef Australia star shared her heartbreak during Monday’s episode of Australian Story on ABC. 

The 49-year-old said she is often asked about why she didn’t have children, and admitted she did fall pregnant eight years ago with ex-husband Jonathan Bennett.  

‘With Jono, we did actually fall pregnant and I lost the baby at 12 weeks. So it was pretty much the day that I was allowed to tell everyone,’ she said. 

‘And it was really heartbreaking. I actually went through a full labour at home. And I saw the baby’. 

Poh said she was sharing her story because miscarriage is important for women to be open about.

‘I like bringing this up because I think it’s something that people should talk about,’ she said. 

‘And I think it’s this sort of silent grief that women have to go through all the time.’

She continued: ‘I really like to confront my emotions up front. Like, I think it’s really healthy. I don’t like to bury anything.

‘But it was probably one of the most horrendous things I’ve ever been through’.

In February 2021 Poh announced she had split Jonathan – who is almost a decade her junior – after six years of marriage. 

The couple, who met on the set of MasterChef, were together for 12 years in total, but ultimately their age difference came between them.

‘Jono and I broke up a little over two years ago,’ Poh told Australian Story. 

‘There is an eight-year age gap and I think at the beginning we thought love could conquer all.

‘I think little things like that start to chip away and we realised we just had to set each other free again.’

In July 2021, the couple also parted ways professionally, with documents showing Jonathan was removed as Director from Poh’s company Jamface. 

It is understood he has cut all ties from the business and removed as a shareholder. 

Poh became a household name after appearing on MasterChef season one in 2009, before returning for Season 12 where she placed 6th.
