It’s never to early to prepare for the future.

CBS recently announced its fall schedule for the 2025-2026 TV season. The lineup consists of 16 returning shows and eight new series, with the network making a splash on Sunday nights. This fall, Sundays will feature new episodes of Tracker at 8:00 p.m., followed by the debut of The Road, a new country music competition series from Yellowstone mastermind Taylor Sheridan and Blake Shelton.

The prolific writer is pulling double duty for CBS because a new Luke Grimes-led Yellowstone spinoff, currently titled Y: Marshals, is set to air Sundays in spring 2026 on the network. The series will see Grimes reprise his role as Kayce Dutton as the former rancher and Navy SEAL joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals.

Our Sunday nights are now officially booked, but what about Thursdays? When exactly does our old buddy Matlock return for a second season of legal intrigue? Here’s everything we know.

The first season consists of 18 episodes.

Is Matlock on CBS Tonight (May 8)?

Nope. The season finale of Matlock aired Thursday, April 17 on CBS. The show is officially on hiatus.

Will There Be a Season 2 of Matlock?

Yes! Back in October 2024, CBS renewed its freshman hit for a second season.

When Does Matlock Return With New Episodes?

No official release date has been announced, but it was recently revealed that Matlock returns to Thursday nights this fall on CBS. We expect the second season to debut in September, with our best guess being Thursday, September 25.
