Matt Smith welcomes a new nephew as sister Laura gives birth to a baby boy named Luca  

It appears that Christmas has come early for Matt Smith and his family.

The actor, who played Prince Philip in The Crown, is celebrating the arrival of his first nephew as his sister, Laura, has given birth to a son, Luca.

Poignantly, the baby has been given the middle name David after Laura and Matt’s father, who died last year.

Matt first became an uncle when his sister welcomed her first child in 2019, a baby girl named Arabella.

Laura, who is a dancer, shares her children with husband of four years, who goes by ‘JJ’ on her Instagram page. 

Proving that they are a tight knit family, the sibling duo have appeared together at many premieres and high-profile events in the past, with Laura often sharing prideful posts of her brother.

And it’s thought that Matt will be delighted, having recently spoken of his desire to hear the patter of tiny feet.

‘I would imagine having children allows this [fame] all to fade away a bit because there just isn’t the time to be so self-involved,’ he said.

‘Not if someone needs to go to school or they’ve got spaghetti hoops up their nose,’ he jested.

The actor, who has previously dated actresses Lily James and Daisy Lowe, added to Esquire: ‘I do think that’s what life is all about in the end. Children.

‘Making a family. You know, when you’re dead, and you’re on the slab, that’s what’ll count,’ he explained.

Matt have a five year relationship with actress Lily James after getting together in 2014, before splitting for good in late 2019, while he is currently dating businesswoman Caroline Brady.
