Maya Jama has opened up on her relationship preferences, as she admitted she is not willing to continue a romance that isn’t adding anything to her life.

The presenter, 30, declared that she is ‘really, really happy’ where she is and only wants to date someone who can make her even happier.

In a brutal blow to exes Stormzy and Ben Simmons, Maya added that she is a ‘big leaver’ who ‘knows what she likes’ and hasn’t hesitated to walk away from past relationships that weren’t satisfactory.

While she confessed that dating in the public eye is a ‘ball-ache’, teasing that she’s had to be secretive with her love life, amid her rumoured new romance with Ruben Dias.

Speaking on video series Now You Know with Julie Adenuga, the Love Island host revealed what she looks for when it comes to a partner.

Maya said: ‘I’m such a lover but I am a big leaver as well. I know what makes me happy and I know what I like — and this is no disrespect to anyone I’ve been in a relationship with, but if it’s not that then I will leave it.

‘My point I always try to make is that I am really, really happy and I have curated this lovely little life for myself and my friends. 

‘I only want you if you are going to add to that or make it better, otherwise I am not really on it.’

She went on to explain how she has to be ‘a secret agent’ when it comes to going on dates because of her fans’ interest in her love life, amid a flurry of reports she’s been secretly dating Portuguese footballer Ruben, 27.

She said: ‘Dating is a bit of a ball-ache if I am honest because I am like, “I can’t go anywhere with you because even if I step out with my friend they are going to say I am dating him”. That’s a bit annoying, having to be a secret agent to date.’

It’s been reported the brunette beauty and the Manchester City star have been dating in secret since meeting at the European Music Awards in November.

Rumours surrounded the pair intensified after Ruben shared a photo from his New Year celebrations in Ibiza, of two people gazing at a sunset with their faces obscured, which fans became convinced was Maya. 

While in February, the pair were spotted wearing matching £5,050 ‘LOVE Bracelets’ by Cartier. 

This month, Maya added fuel to speculation that her relationship with athlete ss taking another serious step as she hinted she is taking Portuguese lessons.

In a video on Instagram after the BRIT Awards, a voice reported by Game Set & Match to be that of Ruben can be heard in conversation with Maya, who is speaking back to the defender in Portuguese.

And pouring fuel on the fire, Maya captioned the post: ‘Lessons have started’.

While she then reconnected with rapper Stormzy, 31, in August 2023, who she had previously dated for five years.

Though her and Ruben have kept tight-lipped on the dating rumours of , earlier this month Gary Lineker took matters into his own hands as he appeared to publicly confirm Maya and Ruben’s new relationship.

Following the announcement that Maya would serve as a manager in the Baller League alongside Juventus forward Alisha Lehmann, she appeared on their social media to react to the news.

Maya laughed as she replied: ‘I’m 30 actually, on the dot. Just 3, 0, new, fresh 30. I just got there.’

However, Gary suddenly appeared in the frame to interrupt the pair’s playful banter and seemingly let slip confirmation of Maya’s romance with Ruben.

He said: ‘Micah, stop flirting and get her boyfriend to play for us!’ sparking a burst of laughter.

While Maya seemed to be taken aback by the public reference to her relationship, as she shouted: ‘Get out! This is why I don’t talk to old people. They’re so weird’.

A source previously told The Sun: ‘Maya and Ruben swapped details at the EMAs and have chatted since, but things went up a gear in early December.

‘When Ruben got injured and had to miss the congested new year fixtures, he jumped at the chance to see in 2025 with Maya in Spain. Spending New Year’s Eve together was a real step forward in their relationship.

‘They get on really well and obviously make a gorgeous couple, but it’s early days.’
