The gripping drama Mayor of Kingstown, featuring Jeremy Renner, is set to conclude with its fifth season on Paramount+, as announced by the streaming service. This marks the final chapter for the series crafted by Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon.

The upcoming season will deviate slightly from its predecessors by comprising eight episodes, instead of the customary ten. Set in the fictional landscape of Kingstown, Michigan, the show delves into a city whose economy and social fabric are intertwined with the incarceration industry. Renner takes on the role of Mike McClusky, the unofficial mediator who navigates the complex relations between criminals, law enforcement, and inmates.

This renewal comes on the heels of a cliffhanger conclusion to Season 4, which recently wrapped up on Paramount+. The season showcased Mike’s struggle to maintain order amid a shifting power structure in the city, catalyzed by the exit of Russian forces. As tensions mount and the threat of a gang war looms, Mike finds himself at odds with new challenges, including the formidable Warden, portrayed by Golden Globe winner Edie Falco.

Fans will be pleased to hear that Falco is expected to reprise her role as Warden Nina Hobbs in the forthcoming season, promising more intense and dramatic interactions as the series reaches its climax.

It appears that Falco will be returning as Warden Nina Hobbs in Season 5.

Mayor of Kingstown stars Lennie James, Laura Benanti, Hugh Dillon, Taylor Handley, Tobi Bamtefa, Derek Webster, Hamish Allan- Headley and Nishi Munshi. Dillon, who co-created the series with Sheridan, also stars.

The decision to end Mayor of Kingstown may come as a surprise to some. The Paramount+ series has earned favorable reviews throughout its four-season run, with Season 4 sitting at a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

But, as The Hollywood Reporter notes, the decision to end the show early could be a result of Sheridan’s new deal with NBCUniversal. Sheridan signed a “massive” overall deal with NBCUniversal in 2025, marking the end of his reign at Paramount+. The prolific writer and filmmaker is the mastermind behind several Paramount+ titles including hits like Yellowstone (and its many spinoffs and iterations), Landman and Lioness.

The new partnership includes an eight-year film deal that is set to begin in March 2026. However, Sheridan’s television deal with NBCUniversal will not begin until 2028 when his current deal with Paramount ends.

A premiere date for Mayor of Kingstown Season 5 has yet to be announced.
