In the upcoming second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Ser Duncan the Tall, played by Peter Claffey, and his devoted squire Egg, portrayed by Dexter Sol Ansell, are set to encounter a fascinating array of new characters.

HBO announced on Instagram today that actors Lucy Boynton, known for her roles in Bohemian Rhapsody and Sing Street, Babou Ceesay from Alien: Earth and Wolfe, and Peter Mullan, recognized for his work in Westworld and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, will join the cast in significant roles for the second installment of this popular Game of Thrones prequel series.

The new season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set to bring to life the events of George R.R. Martin’s second “Dunk and Egg” novella, “The Sworn Sword.” This narrative unfolds a year or two after the first season’s Tourney at Ashford, with Duncan serving as a “sworn sword” for Ser Eustace Osgrey of Standfast. Upon returning, Duncan and Egg find that their stream has vanished during a severe drought. Their investigation reveals that Lady Rohanne Webber, a neighboring noblewoman, has ordered the construction of a dam, redirecting the stream to her moat. The situation escalates when Ser Bennis, another of Ser Eustace’s loyal swords, attacks one of Rohanne’s workers, igniting a fierce rivalry between the houses. Complicating matters further, Lady Rohanne is rumored among the common folk to be a fearsome “Red Widow” with a deadly reputation.

Speaking with DECIDER, showrunner Ira Parker offered a glimpse into the intriguing addition of the Red Widow in Season 2.

“At this point, magic is at its lowest ebb, yet it hasn’t vanished entirely from the realm,” Parker explained. “In Season 2, magic will take on a more prominent role, especially as we delve into the mystery surrounding the Red Widow and the speculation about her potential use of blood magic.”

Lucy Boynton will play Lady Rohanne Webber — aka the Red Widow — a truly formidable and beguiling character in George R.R. Martin’s already-stuffed pantheon of formidable and beguiling women. Alien: Earth standout Babou Ceesay will bring his trademark intensity to Ser Bennis and the legendary Peter Mullan will play Ser Eustace Osgrey, a man haunted by multiple losses suffered during the Blackfyre Rebellion.

It’s already been confirmed that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 will once again be six half-hour episodes and that HBO expects the second season to premiere sometime in 2027.

All six episodes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1 are streaming on HBO Max.
