‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ EP Megan Ganz Says The Gang Is Going Crazy After the Eagles Super Bowl Win: “At Least One Of Them Is Probably In Jail For Punching A Police Horse”

After the Philadelphia Eagles’ decisive win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, no one in the world is screaming “Fly, Eagles Fly” as loud as the characters from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. According to the show’s executive producer, Megan Ganz, the beloved gang from Philly is also probably up to some serious destruction.

Chatting with Decider alongside her husband and fellow Mythic Quest writer, Humphrey Ker, Ganz shared that she congratulated Sunny creator Rob McElhenney “even before the final whistle as the Eagles were near victory. McElhenney, a proud Philadelphia native and lifelong Eagles fan, was in New Orleans for the game with his wife/co-star Kaitlin Olson and even posted a pic to Instagram with Abbott Elementary stars Quinta Brunson and Tyler James Williams. Philly showed out.

As for how Ganz thinks the fictional characters of Mac (McElhenney), Dee (Olson), Charlie (Charlie Day), Frank (Danny DeVito), and Dennis (Glenn Howerton) are celebrating the win, she said that she is not sure exactly, but that it is certainly nothing wholesome.

“Their mouths are stained green from various riot punch concoctions that they’ve been drinking. At least one of them is probably in jail for punching a police horse,” Ganz joked. “There’s probably some battery bruises on many of them. One might still be at the top of a street lamp. You know, they probably climbed up that.”

That last one is a direct reference to the videos on social media showing the streets of Philadelphia on Sunday evening after the Eagles’ victory. The City of Brotherly Love does not half-ass their celebrations and the fans could not control their excitement as their team clinched the title for only the second time in franchise history.

Fans will remember that back in Season 13, the Paddy’s Pub gang got into shenanigans in “The Gang Wins the Big Game” where they watched Super Bowl LII from Lincoln Financial Field. That episode ended with appearances from then-Eagles players Beau Allen and Jason Kelce, as well as a montage of real-life fans watching the nail-biter game end in an Eagles win. As the credits rolled, fans also got to watch Olson and McElhenney’s jubilation as they were in the stadium to witness the Eagles’ first Super Bowl victory.

So how are things different this time around? Ganz and Ker have some other ideas on how the gang is inevitably being their most chaotic selves with the second Super Bowl win.

“I think they’re at the wrong New Orleans,” Ker said of the gang, who just recently appeared in a crossover with the Abbott Elementary crew. “They went to like New Orleans, South Dakota.”

“They’re scattered,” responded Ganz, adding that Frank — the wildly entertaining character played by DeVito — “probably managed to get to the locker room” with the team.

“And Frank is the person who poisoned the Kansas City Chiefs,” Ker said.

Did they just write an episode for Season 17? Fans will have to wait and see how and if the win plays out in the upcoming season of the FX comedy, which does not yet have a release date but is expected to release in the summer. This season does include the It’s Always Sunny version of the Abbott Elementary crossover but maybe the win will cement a second collaboration between the shows.

The first 16 seasons of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia are streaming on Hulu right now.
