The duchess left the show after she and Harry became engaged, so she could focus on her new life as a working royal. However, after about only two years working for The Firm, the duchess hated it so much (there were a slew of rumors about the way the family treated her) that she and Harry both stepped down and started a new life for themselves in the United States.

It’s been five years since Meghan’s royal experience, and in the first episode of her show, she invites her old friend, Daniel, to spend a few days with her. When describing the longtime friendship she has with him, the camera panned close to the duchess when she made a remark about how long he’s known her. “He has just been in my life for the before, during, and after, shall we say,” Meghan said, smirking at the camera. It’s those four words: “before, during and after” that caught our attention. The comment presumably was referring to the friendship surviving before the royal family, during her time as a royal, and into her post-royal life.

Meghan’s choice to segment the stages of her life suggests that her time as a royal left a massive impact on the way she views her adulthood. Meghan has said in the past that there was some serious trauma that came from her royal experience.

Meghan’s new Netflix show could be a good opportunity for her
