Get the details on the ring Rory McPhee gave Mel B when they got engaged including the eye-popping cost of that sparkler.
Mel B and her partner, hair stylist Rory McPhee, tied the knot not once but twice in as many months. After the couple’s star-studded wedding ceremony in London on July 5, they had a destination wedding in Morocco in early August.
This is the third marriage for Scary Spice. She wed actor Jimmy Gulzar in 1998 before they ended things in 2000. Mel and film producer Stephen Belafonte said “I do” in 2007 and ten years later went through a nasty divorce. So how do the engagement rings she received from her previous husbands compare to the one McPhee gave her?
Mel’s ring from Belafonte cost just over $49,000. And while the exact cost of her solitaire diamond from Gulzar isn’t known, it’s believed to cost less than the one she got from hubby No. 2.
The diamond experts at the jewelry retailer Steven Stone have taken a closer look at the stunning ring McPhee gave his bride to estimate how much that’s worth.
Maxwell Stone told Showbiz Cheat Sheet: “Mel B’s engagement ring boasts a striking pear-shaped diamond, beautifully set on a warm rose gold band that adds a touch of modern elegance and timeless romance.
“Mel joins a wealth of celebrities who sport a pear-shaped engagement ring, including fellow Spice Girl Victoria Beckham and tennis extraordinaire Anna Kournikova. It’s no surprise that pear-shaped diamonds are so popular — they look larger than a round diamond due to their elongated shape.”
Maxwell added: “Mel’s diamond is champagne colored. Champagne-colored diamonds are beautiful stones known for their unique color and tint, which is due to nitrogen impurity in their crystal lattices … champagne diamonds are rare and expensive. With all of this in mind, I’d estimate Mel’s ring to be worth at least $133,000.”
