U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump attended a banquet at Windsor Castle during their second state visit to the U.K. The dinner was hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla, with several other members of the royal family also on hand.

Prince William’s wife, the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton), stunned in a floor-length yellow Phillipa Lepley dress and completed her look with her famous Lover’s Knot Tiara. The president’s wife also wore yellow and had people talking.

Melania donned a strapless long-sleeved dress gown that was a deeper yellow shade than Kate’s. It was paired with a belt, and that accessory has many divided over what color it was.

Social media users were baffled that in some photos the belt looked purple and in others it looked pink. It reminded many of the viral dress debate of 2015 when an image of a striped dress divided the internet over its colors as some saw it as blue and black, while others saw it as white and gold.

Fashion experts weigh in on Melania Trump’s outfit, but what color is the waistband?

Fashion editor Lauren Bulla was struck by Melania’s gown and felt something was off about her choice.

“The fully off-the-shoulder style feels quite uncharacteristic of her normal standard. I wonder if she had a different stylist for this occasion,” she said per Express. “The vibrant pink, almost Barbie pink belt, and the slit doesn’t really feel appropriate for the occasion. It reads a bit out of place.”

But was the belt actually pink?

According to Fabulous Digital‘s Fashion Editor Abby McHale, “Melania is usually someone with quite a sharp dress style, often wearing structured silhouettes as we’ve seen already on this state trip, stepping out in a Burberry trench coat and grey Dior suit, so this yellow Bardot dress is her boldest look so far. The Bardot long sleeve gown with a purple or pink waistband is from American designer Carolina Herrera, the bright yellow shade was certainly eye-catching. Yellow is a shade often associated with happiness, positivity and optimism, something maybe Melania is hoping to portray with this look.”

Is the first lady’s belt pink or purple?

Well the verdict is in and if you guessed purple, you are correct.

A source close to the first lady told the Daily Mail that the color of Melania’s dress was “buttercream yellow” and the color of the belt is actually “Easter purple.”

McHale added: “The belt seems to change color depending on which picture you see. The shade is actually ‘Easter purple’ relating to a lilac shade. However, in some lights the belt is appearing as a pale pink shade.”
