Melissa Peterman is brewing up a unique idea for a crossover between the beloved show Reba and the Hallmark Channel, featuring her co-stars Reba McEntire and JoAnna Garcia Swisher.
During a conversation with DECIDER at the Hallmark Christmas Experience, where Peterman serves as a judge for Finding Mr. Christmas, she proposed a Hallmark movie concept. Her pitch included her Happy’s Place colleague along with Garcia Swisher, who not only guest-starred on the NBC sitcom but also took the lead in Hallmark Channel’s 2012 film, As Luck Would Have It.
Peterman’s vision involves, “The three of us playing relatives, perhaps in a storyline reminiscent of Planes, Trains and Automobiles, with the plot centered around our efforts to get home for the holidays.”
She expressed confidence in McEntire’s potential involvement, suggesting, “Reba would excel in this, and would likely want to contribute her musical talents to the project.”
Peterman added, “Reba has dabbled in the Hallmark scene a bit, I think. The original Reba series aired on Hallmark for quite some time. She’s a big fan of Hallmark, might even consider herself a Heartie, and truly enjoys it.”
Peterman was joined by Hallmark’s very own Jonathan Bennett and Tamera Mowry-Housley, the latter of whom expressed interest in working with Peterman on a movie for the network.
“This is what’s so cool about Hallmark, though,” Mowry-Housley highlighted. “You meet the stars, you’re like, ‘Oh, I want to do a movie with you,’ and it’s actually possible, right? Because they interchange.”
Bennett chimed in, “They’re Avengers. It’s different pairings of all the same people.”
Mowry-Housley and Bennett also acknowledged their own previous connections to Peterman, who starred on Baby Daddy with Mowry-Housley’s brother, Tahj Mowry and which featured a guest spot from Bennett’s husband, Jaymes Vaughn.
“So I used to go to some of the tapings, and I’m genuinely a fan,” Mowry-Housley said of Peterman. “I think Melissa is hysterical. Whenever she’s on my television, I have to stop [and] watch her.”
Peterman agreed that they “need to do that,” teasing that they “did a lot of greenlighting during this interview.”
