For Kody and Alicia Funderburk, the path to becoming parents didn’t unfold as anticipated.
The Minnesota Twins, who selected MLB pitcher Kody Funderburk in the 2018 draft, recently shared an update about his family. The couple joyfully welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Murphy Jo, amidst challenging circumstances, as Alicia faced a Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis during her pregnancy.
The team posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, on April 25, celebrating Kody’s return from the Paternity List. They also took the opportunity to highlight the couple’s story with a heartfelt image of them on the baseball field.
In a separate update, the team detailed Alicia’s diagnosis and treatment journey, sharing a photo of her in the hospital. “While pregnant, Alicia, Kody’s wife, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma,” they noted, adding that doctors remain optimistic about her full recovery following chemotherapy treatments.
Amid Alicia’s health battle, the couple safely welcomed their newborn.
“Baby Fundy arrived on Monday, April 20th – a healthy baby girl, Murphy Jo,” the team added. “Both Alicia and Murphy are doing well!”
“We are inspired by the strength and positivity the Funderburks have shown,” they continued, “and we wish them the very best and continue to support them on and off the field.”
