New Movies & Shows To Stream This Weekend: The Rip, Ponies, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy + More

Hollywood favorites Matt Damon and Ben Affleck join forces once more in the crime drama The Rip, now available on Netflix. Also debuting is the espionage thriller Ponies on Peacock, featuring Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson. Paramount+ adds to the Star Trek universe with Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, which premiered on Thursday.

New on Netflix January 16: The Rip

The Rip sees Affleck and Damon as police officers caught in a web of internal corruption after stumbling upon millions in a Miami stash house. This tense thriller, penned and directed by Joe Carnahan—known for hits like The Grey, The A-Team, and Smokin’ Aces—also stars Teyana Taylor, Steven Yeun, Kyle Chandler, and Catalina Sandino Moreno.

Peacock’s latest, Ponies, is set in the 1970s and features Haley Lu Richardson and Emilia Clarke as embassy secretaries turned CIA agents in Moscow. After the suspicious deaths of their spouses, they uncover a broad Cold War conspiracy. This captivating eight-episode series is available to binge in its entirety.

New on Peacock January 15: Ponies

In Peacock’s new espionage series Ponies, Haley Lu Richardson and Emilia Clarke star as two secretaries working at the Moscow embassy in the 1970s who become CIA operatives after the mysterious deaths of their husbands and uncover a vast Cold War conspiracy. The 8-episode series dropped all at once on Thursday.

On Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, the first new class of Starfleet cadets in over a century are ready to learn what it takes to be a part of the Star Trek universe. The brand new series just arrived to Paramount+ with two new episodes, and new episodes will drop weekly after that. The show stars Holly Hunter, Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, and Kerrice Brooks and features appearances from Paul Giamatti, Tog Notaro, and Tatiana Maslany.
