The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued an important health alert advising Nigerians to avoid eating Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles that have been recalled due to the presence of undisclosed allergens.

This warning comes after the French food safety authority, Rappel Conso, issued a recall notice for the product.

The recall was prompted by the discovery of milk and egg allergens in the noodles that were not listed on the packaging, creating a potential health hazard for individuals who are allergic or intolerant to these ingredients.

Undeclared allergens raise health concerns

NAFDAC has highlighted that consuming allergens like milk and eggs without proper labeling can lead to severe allergic reactions in sensitive individuals, which may include breathing difficulties and other serious symptoms.

The agency emphasized the importance of accurate labeling for consumer safety, particularly for those with known food allergies.

While the Federal Government’s ban on the importation of noodles significantly reduces the likelihood of the recalled product entering Nigeria, NAFDAC noted that the risk cannot be completely ruled out.

Products may still enter the country through illegal importation, online shopping platforms, or international travellers.

Agency steps up monitoring nationwide

NAFDAC disclosed that it has commenced vigilance and monitoring activities to prevent the recalled Indomie noodles from circulating in Nigerian markets.

Distributors, retailers, and other stakeholders within the food supply chain were advised to be alert and avoid the sale or distribution of the affected product.

Consumers who may already have the recalled Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles were strongly warned not to consume them.

NAFDAC also urged members of the public to report any suspected sale or circulation of the product to the agency to enable swift regulatory action and protect public health.
