Renowned NBC anchor and author Morgan Radford has announced she is expecting her second child with husband David Williams.
In an exclusive interview with Essence Magazine, the Emmy-nominated journalist opened up about her experiences with motherhood. Originally from North Carolina, Radford shared her perspective on balancing family life with a flourishing career. Contrary to the belief that having children might hinder professional growth, Radford sees it as an advantage.
“I feel so much more productive, so much more creative,” Radford revealed to Essence. “I feel like the wind is just at my back.” The 38-year-old admitted she was initially apprehensive about informing her boss of her pregnancy, concerned it might be perceived as a “reduction in professional capacity.”
Despite these concerns, Morgan described motherhood as the “most expansive thing I’ve ever done.”
She elaborated, saying, “[Motherhood] connected me more to the world. It made me more productive. I wrote a book. I’ve never had this many stories submitted for Emmys. My show has the highest ratings it’s ever had, more viewers. So in many ways, I feel like motherhood is part of my success story.”
Morgan gave birth to her first child, daughter, Adelana Marcia Radford Williams, on Feb. 2, 2023. She shared that baby number two was a pleasant surprise for the entire family.
“This is an accumulation of experience,” she told the outlet. “It’s an accumulation of wisdom. It’s an expansion of expression. When I think about having baby number two, I just think of more life, more love, more family, more creativity. But it’s also more lessons, right? Our kids teach us things, and I cannot wait to see what this second little blessing teaches me.”
As a Black biracial woman, Morgan has shared that her paternal side has roots in Jamaica and Cuba, while her husband’s side of the family has Nigerian heritage. She told Essence that raising bilingual children is a priority for her.
“I want [Adelana] to be a culture carrier,” she explained. “I want her to understand language and culture, respect for elders, our history, [and] our sacrifices for freedom. That’s really important to me to pass down our cultures and protect them and help them survive through the generations.”
