Nelly Furtado made a dazzling appearance at the Juno Awards on Sunday, where she was honored with an induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. This milestone comes just five months after she announced a hiatus from live performances for the foreseeable future.

The 47-year-old singer stunned in a strapless gown adorned with red and black patterns. The dress, featuring a corseted back and an elegant billowy pannier, was crafted by Indigenous designer Lesley Hampton.

Furtado’s look was expertly styled by Marc Andrew Smith, and she enhanced her ensemble with Alexis Bittar jewelry and Gianvito Rossi heels, which remained unseen as she graced the orange carpet at the TD Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario.

Her chic, middle-parted bob was styled by hairstylist Kelly Araujo for the awards ceremony, which was broadcast by CBC.

Makeup artist Susana Hong completed Furtado’s look by expertly contouring her features and highlighting her striking blue eyes with shimmering eye shadow and defined brows.

The Seven songstress wound up losing the pop album of the year trophy to Tate McRae’s So Close to What, but she delivered a rousing speech for her CMHF induction.

‘I’m literally a product of the Canadian dream. Canada’s always cared about art. Canada’s always cared about culture. I’m a product of that,’ Furtado said onstage.

‘I’m just really proud to be Canadian. I live in Canada. I make my music in Canada. And I work with Canadian musicians, songwriters and producers because I totally believe in the Canadian dream. Please believe in it, too.’

Canadian rapper-singer Drake resurfaced, virtually, to honor the Victoria-born belter: ‘I’m here tonight to pay my respects to one of my favorite human beings and one of my favorite artists of all time, Ms. Nelly Furtado.

‘As a Canadian born in Victoria, British Columbia, I could only imagine that we shared the same wild dream of making it out. The difference is while I was still dreaming, I used you as my motivation and proof that it was possible.’

Furtado got to relax in the audience as artists like Lido Pimienta, Tanya Tagaq, Shawn Desman, Jully Black, Kardinal Offishall and Alessia Cara performed a medley of her hits over the years, including her 2000 breakout single I’m Like a Bird.

To coincide with her CMHF induction, the Shapeshifter singer’s career will be honored with a new exhibit running through February 2027 on the fifth floor of Calgary’s National Music Centre featuring her costumes, childhood ukulele, teenage songwriting pages and trophies.

In January of last year, Furtado – who also has a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame – revealed the extent of the body shaming she regularly receives over her 5ft2in frame not staying as slim as her early 2000s heyday.

‘This year I became aware of the aesthetic pressure of my work in a brand new way,’ the Color Theory composer – who boasts 13.7 million social media followers – wrote.

‘My New Year’s message for 2025, is express yourself freely, celebrate your individuality and know that it’s perfectly OK to be OK with what you see in the mirror and it’s also OK to want something different.’
