Nelly Furtado is preparing to step away from the spotlight.
The singer, known for her hit “I’m Like a Bird,” has announced a significant change in her career path, revealing plans to take an indefinite hiatus from performing live and going on tour.
In a heartfelt Instagram post dated October 23, she stated, “I have chosen to pause my performances for the foreseeable future to focus on other creative and personal projects that align better with this new chapter of my life.”
At 46, Furtado expressed her gratitude towards her fans and collaborators for the “years of fun, community, and wonder” she has experienced since her debut album Whoa, Nelly! launched in October 2000.
“I have greatly enjoyed my career and still cherish writing music, a hobby I was fortunate enough to turn into a profession,” she added. “Being a songwriter is a part of my identity that will remain with me always.”
Nelly also shared a positive message for budding musicians hoping to follow in her footsteps, wishing “many years of fruitful and passionate performance” to the “new generation of artists.”
