Fans of the beloved sleuth series have reason to celebrate as Netflix has officially greenlit a third season of A Man on the Inside.
Just three months after the successful debut of its second season, the streaming giant confirmed via social media that Ted Danson will once again grace our screens, reprising his role as the sharp-witted detective for yet another thrilling adventure.
“Third crime’s the charm. A Man on the Inside has been renewed for a third season!” the platform’s comedy division, Netflix Is a Joke, joyfully announced on Instagram.
Created by the mastermind behind The Good Place and Parks and Recreation, Mike Schur, the series chronicles the story of Charles Nieuwyndyk (played by Danson). After the passing of his wife and retiring from his career as an engineering professor, Charles embarks on a new path as a part-time private investigator.
The debut season followed Charles as he unraveled the mystery of missing jewelry at a San Francisco retirement community. Meanwhile, Season 2 transported viewers to Wheeler College in Sacramento, where Charles tackled a gripping blackmail case involving the institution’s president.
After the release of the second season, DECIDER spoke with series star Lilah Richcreek Estrada, who said she is among the most excited cast members to possibly go back to set, especially since Season 2 leaves off on a potential blooming romance between her character and Didi (Stephanie Beatriz), the manager of the Pacific View Retirement Community from Season 1.
“When I found out that they were going to get together, I was like, ‘Oh my God,’” the actress said. “I hadn’t picked up on that myself in Season 1. But I think, you know, the writing spoke for itself… I’m excited to see where it goes if we get more seasons.”
DECIDER also spoke with Schur and Danson ahead of Season 2’s release on Netflix and asked the producers to confirm if the show will continue to feature everyone’s favorite guest star, Kristen Bell, who has made quick cameos in both seasons. Rest assured, it’s happening.
“We decided after she dropped by the set [in Season 1] and we had her do a little cameo where she just stood up with her back to camera and walked off, we decided that somehow or another, as long as this show exists, she will make an appearance in every season,” Schur said.
As for how she’ll appear in Season 3, who will lead the third season’s cast — Season 2 featured Mary Steenburgen, Max Greenfield, and more — and what the case in Season 3 will be, stay tuned. We’re just glad that we have more of this silly little comedy to look forward to.
The first two seasons of A Man on the Inside are now streaming on Netflix.
Netflix offers three subscription plans to fit your streaming needs. The plans start at $7.99/month for standard with ads and go up to $24.99/month for unlimited ad-free streaming in up to 4K UHD quality.
