It’s official – we finally know who will play Danny Reagan’s new partner in the Blue Bloods offshoot series, Boston Blue! The announcement was made by CBS along with a series of release dates, lineup changes and exciting shows to come.

On Wednesday, May 7, it was announced that Sonequa Martin-Green will be portraying Danny’s new Boston PD partner, Lena Peters. Donnie Wahlberg will be reprising his role of Danny in the Blue Bloods series expansion, which will air this fall. The new show is set in Boston, and will continue the story of Danny, who formally lived in New York City as a member of the NYPD.

Fans might know Sonequa, 40, from her previous roles as Sasha in The Walking Dead, Michael Burnham in the Star Trek franchise, Rhonda in New Girl, Tamara in Once Upon a Time, Michelle Terry in NYC 22, Courtney Wells in The Good Wife, Kanessa Jones in Army Wives and many more memorable acting appearances.

In the new show Boston Blue, Danny will be taking a job with Boston PD. He will be working alongside Lena, who is the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family. No additional casting announcements have been made at this time.

Donnie, 55, has already teased what’s to come in the new drama series, and who viewers can possibly expect appearances from.

“Now it’s just Danny going to this new world, but I can’t say a lot about it, but I can say, you know, if he’s a Reagan, it’ll never be just Danny,” the New Kids on the Block member told Fox News Digital in a May 1 interview. “They’ll always be a Reagan a phone call away, and, you know, the traditions that the Reagans have, Danny wouldn’t abandon those traditions.”

“Something might happen to move him away from New York. But he’s always going to be a Reagan,” he added. “I stopped looking at this show, Boston Blue, as a … once I started to let go of Blue Bloods, I started to see the opportunity that Boston Blue was. That it’s really a chance for us to carry on the tradition and the legacy of the show. And I know how important it is to the viewers because I share what Blue Bloods meant. It meant a lot to me as well. So I know there’s a lot of excitement and enthusiasm about it.”

Boston Blue is part of a stacked CBS lineup in the 2025-2026 broadcast season, which also includes an upcoming Fire Country offshoot series called Sheriff Country.

“Our 2025-2026 primetime schedule boasts a star-studded lineup of returning hit shows and new exciting series from top creators and producers,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “Coming off another winning season enabled us to make bold scheduling moves and fortify our strong lineup with thematically compatible programs every night of the week for strong viewer flow and to serve as a powerful launch pad for the new shows. Additionally, we’re appreciative of our loyal audiences who regularly watch on CBS and Paramount+ and to our creative partners who continue to deliver outstanding content.”
