Nigeria’s future is at stake with APC in power - Baba-Ahmed

Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former Political Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has expressed serious concerns over Nigeria’s future under the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a recent interview, Baba-Ahmed, warned that the nation’s survival is uncertain under the current administration and its handling of critical issues.

Baba-Ahmed, who resigned from his position as Political Adviser to the President, described the Tinubu administration as failing to live up to expectations.

He noted that despite the opportunity to rectify the shortcomings of the previous administration, led by Muhammadu Buhari, the current government has failed to make any meaningful changes.

The future doesn’t look healthy with the APC, which is burdened by its own liabilities as well as those inherited from other parties,” Baba-Ahmed said.

He added that the administration’s inability to tap into the full potential of younger, more dynamic leaders is a key reason for the country’s continued struggles.

Baba-Ahmed emphasized the need for the administration to adopt a more realistic approach to governance, urging President Tinubu to surround himself with competent and visionary individuals who can help navigate the nation’s many challenges.

Reflecting on his time in office, Baba-Ahmed stated that he found himself increasingly sidelined in the administration, despite his efforts to provide valuable advice.

“I did my job as best as I could, but it became clear that there was no room for my contributions. Many of the issues I could have helped address were ignored,” he stated.

He pointed out that the administration’s isolation from quality advice has led to poor decision-making.

On the 2027 election, Baba-Ahmed warned Nigerians to be cautious of politicians who have previously failed the country.

He stressed the importance of electing leaders who have a genuine desire to address the country’s problems, including insecurity and poverty.

Nigerians should open their eyes. 2027 will be a very, very important and decisive election. It will determine whether we will continue to sink under the incompetence and indifference of the last 12 years, eight years of Buhari and now four years of Tinubu, or we want to recreate Nigeria and re-engineer it so that it can address the problems of insecurity and poverty and deterioration of inter community relationship,” he said.

The former Publicity Secretary of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) also dismissed the idea of joining any political coalition that includes former leaders responsible for Nigeria’s current state.

“I’m not interested in joining any coalition of people who have wrecked the country,” Baba-Ahmed declared.

He urged Nigerians to reject politicians who cling to power, emphasizing that the future of the nation belongs to the people, not the power-hungry individuals currently in office.

Baba-Ahmed called on Nigerians to rise above ethnic and religious divisions and focus on choosing leaders who truly represent their interests.

“Nigeria can survive and can overcome its problems but it certainly cannot do so under the present leadership or the kind of coalitions of all these politicians who are desperately clinging to power, making it to appear as if the future belongs only to them.

“The future belongs to Nigerians. Nigerians should be very careful, they should not be carried away by all this business of North and South, ethnicity and religion.

“Everybody is a victim of the same problem created by the same people who are now asking us to trust them, they should not trust them,” he added.
