A Nigerian couple became a viral sensation following their low-key wedding which was missing the major fancy hall, large guests, reception and many others.

The couple tied the knot in a modest ceremony that prioritized love over luxury, proving that weddings don’t have to be extravagant.

The story was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by sports journalist Godwin Enakhena, who attended the wedding in Ibadan, Oyo State. According to him, the couple did not rent an event center, hire a musical band, or even serve drinks, yet everything went smoothly.

Enakhena, who identified the bride as Mary, his secretary at MFM Women Basketball Club, praised the couple’s decision.

“You don’t need millions to get married! Mary, my Secretary at MFM Women Basketball Club, got married in Ibadan yesterday without hiring an event center, no reception, no drinks served, no musician on the bandstand, no compulsory asho-ebi. May God bless this union,” he captioned the post.

The couple’s simple approach has sparked online discussions, with many agreeing that weddings should be about commitment rather than financial strain.
