The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, has voiced his opinion that Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President, will never ascend to Nigeria’s presidency.
According to Akiolu, despite Atiku’s persistent political aspirations dating back to 1992, fate does not favor his rise to the nation’s highest office.
During a conversation with journalists at his Iga Iduganran Palace, as he celebrated 22 years on the throne, the monarch shared his views.
He highlighted the contrast between Atiku’s numerous presidential campaigns and President Bola Tinubu’s rise, whom Akiolu regards as having a divinely guided path to leadership.
He contrasted Atiku’s repeated presidential bids with the emergence of President Bola Tinubu, whom he described as divinely ordained.
“The future belongs to God. But let me say it plainly: former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will never be President of Nigeria,” the monarch said.
He praised Tinubu as a compassionate and visionary leader, adding that Tinubu personally presented his certificate of return to the Oba after his victory.
“Lagosians and Nigerians should support him to fulfil God’s purpose for the country,” Akiolu urged.
Oba Akiolu’s comments reinforce the narrative that Tinubu’s presidency is supported by influential traditional figures, while Atiku’s long pursuit of the presidency continues to face skepticism from some quarters.
