Nigerian artist Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, more widely recognized by his stage name Oladips, recently disclosed his detainment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) due to allegations of tax evasion.
During his candid recounting of the events, Oladips explained that while in EFCC custody, investigations ultimately cleared him of any fraudulent conduct.
The incident dates back to November 2024, when EFCC agents reportedly conducted a pre-dawn raid, around 3 a.m., at his residential estate, leading to his arrest alongside other residents under suspicion of fraud. In a recent interview with Hip TV, Oladips clarified that the detention was related to outstanding taxes, not criminal wrongdoing.
“It was just another night, and suddenly, the EFCC stormed into my estate,” he recounted. “It’s a large estate, and they were systematically arresting people house by house. I was at home, and it was approximately 3 a.m.,” he explained.
“I saw it inside the estate group that EFCC were inside. I promise you, I was on my bed pressing phone because it’s none of my business. I didn’t run because I don’t do fraud, I don’t do Yahoo. Na person wey do fraud go dey run.
“The next thing, they broke my kitchen door and entered my house and asked for my phone and laptop. I’m only using two phones, I don’t have a laptop. So they collected my phones did their investigation and realised that I don’t fraud. When they can’t find anything to hold me down, That’s when one of their oga came out and said do I pay tax? That’s how they locked me up for not paying tax”, he narrated.
