Once upon a time, royal fans everywhere were excited at the prospect of Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, joining forces with Prince William and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) to do work all over the globe on behalf of the Crown. But that never really materialized as a nasty rift between the brothers and tensions between the women became public knowledge before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to leave Britain altogether.

Now, a new book is detailing Meghan’s feelings about her in-laws told through the eyes of those who worked at Kensington Palace before the Sussexes stepped down. In one extract, staffers recalled how the former Suits star used to make comments that William and Harry must “have different parents.”

Why Meghan used to say that Prince William and Harry didn’t have the same parents

Royal expert Tom Quinn, who authored the book Yes Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants, spoke to several people who were employed at the Palace when Meghan was still there.

Express noted that one of the revelations the royal household staffers recalled was Meghan questioning if Prince Harry and William actually have the same set of parents.

They remembered that Meghan used to quip about Prince Harry “having different parents to William.”

One staffer shared: “She used to make jokes about Harry not having the same parents as William, claiming, ‘Harry isn’t pompous at all. He’s chill.”

Another added that the duchess would talk about how the two brothers had different parents due to the stark differences in their personalities with Harry being spontaneous and laid back compared to a very “serious” William asking: “Why do William and Charles sound so serious all the time?”

Some have blamed Meghan for the rift between the princes

There’s never been a shortage of people who blame Meghan for what happened between the brothers.

According to royal photographer Arthur Edwards, who has worked with the royals for more than four decades, William and Harry used to be “inseparable. They would always joke about each other … They were fun. And then Meghan came along, and suddenly, everything changed. Everything changed, I think, for the worst for the family after about 18 months, everything changed … Meghan is not talking to her family and now Prince Harry is not talking to his. There’s a common denominator there.”

And longtime royal correspondent Charles Rae told The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show that he doesn’t think the Waleses will ever forgive the Sussexes for all the “pain” they caused.

“There’s too much water which has gone under that bridge,” he said. “After everything Harry and Meghan have done with the Oprah Winfrey interview, that Netflix show … [Harry’s book] Spare. The flamboyant curtsy by Meghan on the show as well. There’s too much gone under the bridge now.

Rae continued: “I suspect one of the driving forces in not making it happen is Meghan herself. I’m not trying to blame her for everything. I don’t blame her for everything but I don’t think things she is doing help matters.”
