Porsha Williams is opening up about how her daughter, Pilar Jhena, is coping with her divorce from Simon Guobadia. The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum revealed that the split deeply affected the six-year-old, saying that she was “heartbroken“.

In an exclusive interview with People Magazine, the 44-year-old discussed a myriad of topics relating to her divorce with the themed-backdrop of the 1995 hit movie, Waiting to Exhale. The reality star told the outlet that “PJ” has been extremely affected by the divorce.

“Bringing Pilar into this marriage was just beautiful,” she remembered. “We let her relationship with Simon happen naturally, the same way we let my relationship with his kids who lived with us happen naturally. And Pilar, she really thrived in it. She loved Simon. She loved having brothers and sisters.”

In the beginning, Williams told her daughter that her stepfather was traveling for work, but eventually she had to tell her the truth.

“I just said, ‘Pilar, Mommy and Papa aren’t together anymore. Like, how we were married—how I was the wife and he was the husband? We don’t have that anymore. We’re now really good friends. But we both still love you. He still loves you.’ ” Pilar was devastated according to the best selling author. Pilar asked her mother, “So he just left me, and he’s not coming back?”

Williams claims that she tried to reach out to Guobadia for Pilar to speak with him, but calls were not answered. Guobadia has stated that he thought her texts were “manipulative.”

To help her navigate this confusing and heartbreaking time with her daughter, Williams reached out to PJ’s father, Dennis McKinley, for help.

“I told him, ‘I really need you and I to be close right now.’ And he stepped up in every way,” she said in her interview. “We bonded around Pilar to show her what she still had. And she’s really doing well. I’m so blessed to have her father support me through this transition and put her first.”
