Queen Camilla is reportedly developing a warmer relationship with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, although an unnamed insider claims the Queen’s support may be motivated by more than personal reconciliation. According to HeatWorld, Camilla may want to keep Mountbatten-Windsor close to help shield King Charles from additional controversy.
Mountbatten-Windsor has faced intense scrutiny over his association with convicted s–x offender Jeffrey Epstein. In 2025, Charles removed his remaining royal titles and honors, and Mountbatten-Windsor left Royal Lodge in early 2026. He is now contesting the police investigation involving him.
Camilla and Mountbatten-Windsor are said to have endured a strained relationship for many years. Before Camilla married Charles in 2005, Mountbatten-Windsor reportedly believed she was not “aristocratic enough” for his brother. Reports also suggested he urged their mother, Queen Elizabeth II, to intervene and prevent the marriage.
Camilla was also absent from Princess Eugenie’s October 12, 2018, wedding to Jack Brooksbank. She had a previously scheduled visit to Crathie Primary School in Scotland. Her nonattendance, however, does not establish that a private disagreement existed between her and Mountbatten-Windsor.
More recently, Mountbatten-Windsor has reportedly sought to rebuild his connection with Camilla. An unnamed source claimed the Queen has become more receptive to him and suggested she may view a closer bond as strategically beneficial.
“Camilla is always looking out of herself,” the source alleged. According to the insider, an alliance with Mountbatten-Windsor “could soon come in very handy for her.” The source described that potential benefit as a “big motivator,” while insisting Camilla would never acknowledge it publicly.
The source further claimed Camilla has recognized the similarities they share. Both are passionate about horses and have spent much of their lives within aristocratic social circles. “They’re both such horse people for one thing,” the insider said, adding that they grew up in a “very small aristocratic world.” That shared background, the source suggested, gives them plenty of common ground.

Mountbatten-Windsor’s legal problems have also intensified scrutiny of the royal family. Police arrested him on February 19, 2026, on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The inquiry centers on allegations that he passed sensitive information to Epstein while serving as the U.K.’s trade envoy. Mountbatten-Windsor has denied wrongdoing and has not been charged.
He subsequently challenged the search warrants used by police at properties connected to him. On October 8, 2026, the High Court declared the warrants unlawful, but the decision did not bring the investigation to an end. Police continue to seek permission to retain materials seized during the searches.
Mountbatten-Windsor’s former wife, Sarah Ferguson, has also returned to the U.K. after spending several months abroad. Speculation has circulated that she could publish a tell-all memoir, though her representatives said there is currently “no memoir” in development.
The unnamed source claimed Camilla is trying to limit the possibility of further disclosures that could damage Charles and the monarchy. In their view, maintaining a close relationship with Mountbatten-Windsor might discourage him from sharing confidential information. “Camilla feels that is only wise,” the source said, suggesting he would be “less likely to come after them all with some nasty tell-all.”
The insider described such revelations as “the last thing they need.” They also claimed Charles may have believed he was creating distance from Mountbatten-Windsor by effectively placing Camilla between them. Still, the source concluded that Mountbatten-Windsor remains “a problem that’s clearly not going to go away.”
