Dick Van Dyke is very much alive, despite a slip-up that had listeners momentarily confused.

In the somber wake of James Van Der Beek‘s untimely passing at 48, Ashley Roberts, a former member of the Pussycat Dolls, mistakenly announced the death of the beloved Mary Poppins star during a live broadcast.

During the February 12 episode of the UK-based Breakfast Show radio program, audio obtained by the Daily Mail captured the moment when Roberts said, “I do have some sad news. Dawson’s Creek‘s Dick Van Dyke passed away.”

Her cohost, Jamie Theakston, was quick to intervene, promptly rectifying the error, “Not Dick Van Dyke,” he interjected. “Come on, if you’re going to do a sensitive moment, if you’re going to do an obituary, you can’t just say Dick Van Dyke.”

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of accuracy, especially when delivering sensitive news. Fortunately, Dick Van Dyke, the cherished entertainer, continues to bring joy to fans around the world.

Indeed, Jamie confirmed the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang star, who turned 100 in December, is “very much still with us.”

“He’s 100 years old,” Ashley said. “Oh my gosh, we’ve spoken about this. I’m so sorry.”

In fact, Dick recently shared how vibrant he felt heading into his milestone birthday last year, explaining he feels “like I’m about 13.”
