The eccentric Australian breakdancer who took the Paris Olympic Games by storm tried to take a microphone out of the hands of an Oxford Street drag queen on Thursday night, after tripping and falling during an embarrassing impromptu performance.   

Rachael Gunn, otherwise known by her nickname Raygun, became a global source of ridicule during the Paris 2024 Olympics. 

Dressed in an Australian tracksuit that looked more like a cricket uniform than a breakdancing get-up, Raygun hopped like a kangaroo and slid around the floor like a snake in a routine that did not impress the judges. 

The one-woman-meme-generator let her hair down on Thursday night, taking to the stage at a Sydney nightclub to recreate her Olympic performance. 

In footage shared to Instagram by drag queen Champagne, the crowd at Universal can be seen chanting Raygun’s name before she promptly tripped over her own foot and fell on her face. 

The 37-year-old academic quickly stumbled to her feet and then attempted to snatch the microphone out of Champagne’s hands. 

Raygun wore a pair of loose-fitting shorts that featured a print of cartoon cats, paired with an oversized red-and-black polo shirt for her big night out. 

She made an appearance a the Stonewall Hotel before trekking down Oxford Street to the Universal nightclub in a pair of chunky white sneakers and long white socks. 

Sydney drag queen Champagne shared footage of the incident to Instagram, which was then shared by LGBTQ+ news source, Gay Sydney News. 

The outlet reported that Gunn ‘attempted to dance’ on the ground floor stage of the two-level nightclub. 

In the video, she appears to be recreating some of the dance moves from her Paris Olympics 2024 performance, but her toes roll forward and she loses her balance.

The Australian Olympian admitted she ‘definitely’ had a bit too much to drink, after the footage began to circulate online.  

Taking to the comments section on the GSN post, she wrote: ‘Hahaha defs had a bit too much! Imagine my hangxiety today!’ 

Hangxiety, or hangover anxiety, is a feeling of anxiety, stress, or dread that can occur after drinking alcohol. 

Reactions to the video were mixed, with club goers who met Raygun on Thursday saying that she was ‘lovely’. 

But wothers didn’t approve of her trying to take the microphone from Champagne. 

The drag queen is a regular host at Universal and hyped up the Olympian during her performance, but didn’t appear impressed when Gunn snatched at the microphone after falling over. 

Gunn held her fingers up to the crowd as if to say ‘That’s enough,’ after she righted herself, before lurching dangerously close to falling off the stage. 

Multiple men tried to gently direct the dancer so that she didn’t lose her footing for a second time. 

‘She was really lovely to meet,’ TikToker Luke Austin commented on the post, while another view said ‘The mic snatch…says a lot.’ 

Gunn’s big night out comes after several recent attempts to monopolise on her newfound fame, including a shock appearance on stage with Tones and I in Melbourne and challenging haters to a $10K dance off competition.
