Real Madrid managed to find their winning stride once again with a tight 2-1 triumph over Alaves at Mendizorroza, a crucial result that keeps them neck-and-neck with La Liga frontrunners, Barcelona, following a series of defeats.

The return of Kylian Mbappe to the starting lineup proved pivotal. He showcased his skill by netting the opening goal, artfully cutting in from the left flank after receiving a pass from Jude Bellingham. With precision, he curled the ball into the top corner, notching his 17th league goal of the season.

However, despite drawing first blood, Real Madrid struggled to assert control over the match. Alaves, undeterred, posed a consistent threat throughout the game.

Mbappe strikes as Madrid struggle for control

Their persistence paid off early in the second half when Carlos Vicente, coming off the bench, made an immediate impact. After expertly controlling the ball, he unleashed a shot that beat Thibaut Courtois, leveling the score and intensifying the competition.

The hosts were rewarded early in the second half when substitute Carlos Vicente brought the ball down well before firing past Thibaut Courtois.

Although initially ruled out for offside, VAR confirmed Vicente was level with Antonio Rudiger, allowing the goal to stand.

Rodrygo restores advantage

Real Madrid responded quickly, with Rodrygo Goes restoring their lead minutes later.

Vinicius Junior drove into the box and delivered a cutback that Rodrygo converted from close range, scoring for the second consecutive league match.

Madrid hold on for vital points

Jude Bellingham was denied twice late on as the visitors pushed for a third goal, but Xabi Alonso’s side managed the closing stages to secure all three points.

The win lifts Real Madrid back to within four points of Barcelona at the top of La Liga and eases pressure following recent setbacks, though the performance suggested there is still work to be done.
