Reality Star Alexis Skyy Calls Daughter Alaiya ‘A Walking Testimony’ After Doctors Warned She Might Never Walk or Talk

Alexis Skyy says doctors once told her that her daughter, Alaiya, might never be able to walk or speak.

In a recent interview with SHEEN magazine, Skyy reflected on the moment she believes prayer changed everything for her child.

She recalled placing her hands on Alaiya’s back and gently pushing her forward while praying, “God, please, if I never asked you for anything, just let my baby walk. And she walked.”

“That was the exact moment I knew God was real,” Skyy said.

Alaiya has experienced several health complications over the years, including severe balance issues that eventually led to surgery aimed at improving her mobility.

After carefully exploring treatment options with her daughter, Skyy chose St. Louis Children’s Hospital for the procedure.

The operation carried significant risks, including nerve damage and paralysis. Because insurance would not cover the treatment, Skyy also had to raise the $50,000 cost on her own.

She spent years putting money aside while Alaiya remained on the hospital’s waiting list for two and a half years. By the time a surgical opening became available, Skyy had already saved enough to pay for it.

“I knew that day was going to come,” she said. “So I always praised.”

While the surgery went well, Alaiya’s recovery demanded considerable time and effort. She stayed in the hospital for about a month and then spent another two months on bed rest. Wearing casts on both legs, she had to regain her strength and movement through intensive physical therapy.

Now 8, Alaiya attends public school and continues making progress through therapy, which began when she was just 6 months old. She has not needed another operation in several years.

“She’s doing amazing,” Skyy said.

Skyy has intentionally kept much of her daughter’s medical journey away from social media and remains cautious about what she shares publicly. She explained that whenever she becomes involved in a public dispute, critics sometimes target Alaiya or attack her parenting.

“I definitely protect her all the time,” she said.

The former Love & Hip Hop star says her faith and the support of her family have helped her navigate the challenges of motherhood.

“Honestly, it was faith, prayer and a village,” Skyy said.

Skyy also credits her mother and grandmother with helping care for Alaiya, especially during periods when she was working and filming. She said Alaiya’s great-grandmother, whom she described as an old-school Jamaican woman, passed down lessons about scripture, prayer and gospel music.

Alaiya has embraced those traditions. According to Skyy, she prays for herself and her mother, knows every praise song and even encourages people she meets. “You’re covered,” she sometimes tells them.

“She is a walking testimony,” the proud mother said. “She’s a voice for other children with special needs.”
