With one Instagram post, Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift got the world talking and had fans everywhere overjoyed as they announced that they are engaged.

On Aug. 26, the couple shared their happy news with a few snaps of Kansas City Chiefs tight end‘s proposal to the “Karma” singer with the caption: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” The post racked up over 10 million likes in the first hour and more than tripled that number within the first 24 hours it was up.

But Swift’s path to her love story with Kelce wasn’t all roses. The “Blank Space” artist had quite a few high-profile relationships that didn’t work out. Luckily for her fans, they inspired some of her biggest hits as she expressed what she went through in her quest to find Mr. Right.

An expert is weighing in on Swift and Kelce’s big news and how the pop star’s public romantic past has “shaped her path to lasting love.”

Relationship expert and psychologist Dr. Sarah Hensley has over 15 years of experience in social psychology and specializes in attachment science and attraction. She has more than 1 million followers on TikTok and is the founder of The Dating Decoder. Dr. Hensley has previously offered her expertise on Good Morning America,  CNN, and more. Now, she’s giving her take on what Swift’s journey in love “healing, commitment, and self-awareness in high-profile relationships.”

According to Dr. Hensley, “I think [Taylor and Travis] have shown every sign of a securely attached couple. On the New Heights podcast, we got to see them both lifting each other up, describing a true best friendship with shared ideals and hobbies, and a desire to deeply know the other person.

“The mutual respect and admiration seems incredibly genuine. Taylor’s depiction of her family leads me to believe she was raised as a securely attached child that was growing up in the spotlight and trying to navigate a level of stardom that would be hard for grown adults, let alone a teenager.”

She continued, “We see these heartbreaks in her music, but perhaps she was the secure one among the insecure celebrity dating pool–which is why her breakups were marked with so many emotions made into deeply appreciated art that felt just so relatable. At the end of the day, we all want to be chosen, and we don’t want to settle–and she didn’t.
