Both 28 Years Later and 28 Days Later are now streaming on Netflix, so there goes all your plans to be productive this weekend.

Directed by the OG team director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland, 28 Years Later picks up—as the title suggests—28 years after the 2007 movie 28 Weeks Later, aka the sequel to the 2002 movie 28 Days Later. The third movie in the franchise finds survivors of the Rage virus epidemic living a new way of life, trying to stay alive while avoiding the infected. 28 Years Later features a new cast, led by star Jodie Comer, who plays a woman named Isla who suffers from memory loss. Her husband Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) is a scavenger trying to keep both them and their 12-year-old son Spike alive.

After you finish watching 28 Years Later on Netflix, you’ll be banging at the studio’s door for part two. Lucky for you, part two—aka 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple—has already been filmed and has a release date. Read on to learn more about when the 28 Years Later sequel movie comes out in movie theaters, and when we expect to see 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple streaming on Netflix.

When does 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple come out?

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is scheduled to be released in movie theaters on January 16, 2026. Both the 28 Years Later movie and the 28 Years Later sequel movie were filmed back-to-back in the summer of 2024, which means 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple has already been filmed. There’s already a trailer, poster, and everything!

Director Nia DaCosta takes the reigns for Part 2, taking over from director Danny Boyle. Alex Garland, who also wrote 28 Years Later and 28 Days Later, wrote the script. The story picks up after the events of the first film, and follows Jamie’s son Spike (Alfie Williams) as he joins the cult of survivors led by Sir Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell). At the same time, fellow survivor and former doctor Dr Ian Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) discovers something that, if you can believe it, might make this zombie apocalypse situation even worse.

When will 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple be streaming on Netflix?

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple will open in theaters only first, but it will eventually stream on Netflix, too. Netflix has a deal with Sony Pictures that gives the streamer the rights to the Sony movies in the “Pay 1” window, meaning the first streaming window after the film’s home media release.

Because 28 Years Later came to Netflix about three months after opening in theaters, it seems safe to assume you will see 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple on Netflix about three months after it opens in theaters, too. That means you’ll probably see 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple on Netflix around mid-April 2026.

In the meantime, you can watch both 28 Days Later and 28 Years Later on Netflix right now.
