Reynolds and Lively’s absence from the Golden Globes reportedly had nothing to do with the Justin Baldoni ‘It Ends With Us’ legal drama.

The Golden Globes were, without a doubt, brimming with celebrities, but Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively weren’t among them. The pair didn’t walk the red carpet before sitting down for the ceremony that kicked off Hollywood’s awards show season. Why? It wasn’t reportedly the It’s Ends With Us legal drama.

Ryan Reynolds’ ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ was up for an award at the Golden Globes

The Golden Globes didn’t come with a Lively-Reynolds sighting despite Deadpool & Wolverine’s nomination. The movie, which brought together Reynolds and his longtime friend and The Wolverine star Hugh Jackman, received a Cinematic and Box Office Achievement nomination. Deadpool & Wolverine premiered on July 26, 2024. It quickly became the ninth movie to open to over $200 million (via Rotten Tomatoes).

Wicked ultimately took home the Golden Globe beating out Deadpool & Wolverine, as well as other nominees Alien: Romulus, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Gladiator II, Inside Out 2, Twisters, and The Wild Robot

In addition to Reynolds’s (and Lively’s) absence, Jackman also wasn’t there at the Golden Globes to cheer on Deadpool & Wolverine.

According to a Page Six report, Lively’s legal battle involving her It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni wasn’t behind her and Reynolds’ skipping the Golden Globes.

An insider told the outlet the Gossip Girl alum and Deadpool star decided not to attend the awards show long before the legal drama became public in late December 2024. So, why did Lively and Reynolds skip the Golden Globes? Although their reps were contacted, a reason for their absence wasn’t given.

Lively filed a legal complaint against her It Ends With Us co-star and director, in addition to his production company and publicists, on Dec. 20, 2024. In the document, which totaled 81 pages, she alleged a hostile environment on set, sexual harassment, and a social media campaign to “destroy” her. Text messages between Baldoni and publicists were also used to back up Lively’s claims.

She’s since filed a formal suit in the New York Federal court against Baldoni. Meanwhile, he’s taken legal action of his own, suing the New York Times for libel, for its coverage of Lively’s initial legal complaint.

It’s been a while since Lively and Reynolds stepped out together publicly. More than a month at the time of writing. 17 days before Lively filed her legal complaint against Baldoni she and her husband of 12 years attended a Dec. 3, 2024, New York screening of Wicked. They were photographed alongside stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.

Prior to that, Lively and Reynolds were spotted visiting with the cast of the & Juliet Broadway musical on Oct. 23, 2024. Shortly before that, they had dinner with Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce at The Corner Store on Oct. 11, 2024.
