Why so serious? More like, why so cheerful?
Apple TV has unveiled the trailer for its upcoming “genre-bending” series Pluribus, crafted by none other than Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan. The show, which has already been greenlit for a second season, features Rhea Seehorn in the leading role as Carol, described by the streaming platform as “the most miserable person in the world.” The intriguing premise of Pluribus revolves around Carol’s daunting mission to “save the world from happiness.”
The trailer offers glimpses of comedy, thriller, and drama, capturing Carol’s struggle against the pervasive happiness around her. At one point, she poignantly questions, “How do I reverse this?”
“Rest assured, Carol. We will figure out what makes you different,” a White House official assures her in the clip.
To which Carol inquires, “Why?” The official responds, “So you can join us.”
Carol exclaims, “What the fuck.”
While scenes from the series play out, the words “happiness is a state of mind” appear on screen. Carol is ultimately told by someone that they “would move heaven and earth to make [her] happy,” prompting her to test her luck.
“If I asked right now, would you give me a hand grenade?” she asks.
“Yes,” they reply.
“What about a bazooka?” she adds.
They confirm, “Mmhmm.”
Carol asks, “A tank?”
They respond, “Oh, sure.”
Alongside Seehorn, Pluribus stars Karolina Wydra and Carlos-Manuel Vega, with guest stars Miriam Shor and Samba Schutte. Seehorn, who starred in Gilligan’s Breaking Bad spin-off, Better Call Saul, recently appeared in Bad Boys: Ride or Die.
The first two episodes of Pluribus premiere on Apple TV on Nov. 7, with new episodes being released every Friday through Dec. 26.
