Ronda Rousey is stepping back into the spotlight.
After nearly ten years away from mixed martial arts, the renowned fighter has revealed her decision to emerge from retirement for a face-off with fellow former MMA competitor, Gina Carano.
“I’ve been eager to share this: Gina Carano and I are set to clash in what promises to be the biggest super fight in women’s combat sports history!” Ronda declared in a February 17 statement to ESPN. “This is dedicated to MMA fans of the past, present, and future. Stay tuned… there’s much more in store.”
This much-anticipated match-up, facilitated by Jake Paul‘s Most Valuable Promotions, is scheduled to stream live on Netflix on May 16.
Since her time in MMA, Ronda—mother to daughters La’akea Browne, 4, and Liko’ula Browne, 13 months, with husband Travis Browne—transitioned to wrestling in WWE until 2023 and has acted in the Fast & Furious and The Expendables series. Meanwhile, Gina, who last competed in 2009, has made her mark in Fast & Furious 6, Deadpool, and The Mandalorian.
After Ronda, 39, announced her upcoming fight, Gina detailed how the matchup came to be.Â
