In a heartwarming gesture for Thanksgiving, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are teaching their children the value of kindness through direct action.
In a rare public appearance, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, joined their parents at Our Big Kitchen Los Angeles (OBKLA) as part of their Archewell Foundation’s outreach. OBKLA, a community-focused nonprofit, prepares more than 70,000 meals each year for those facing food insecurity in Los Angeles. The Sussex family helped package meals destined for Los Angeles Mercy Housing, Pico Union Project, and PATH, as noted in a November 26 update on the Archewell Foundation website.
Photos from the day captured Archie and Lili enthusiastically rolling dough with their parents, fully engaged in the meal preparation process. Meghan, now 44, later posted on Instagram Stories, showcasing the finished baked goods with the caption, “Show up, do good.”
Additional images from the event showed Harry, 41, diligently scooping bell peppers into trays filled with meat and rice, with Meghan by his side, holding Lilibet’s hand. Both sported Archewell hats, with Meghan wearing a matching apron and Harry donning an OBKLA smock.

Earlier this year, Meghan shared insights into how she and Harry are fostering a sense of responsibility and community in their children. At their Montecito home, they have cultivated a vegetable garden and set up a child-sized market stand for Archie and Lili.
“We grow a lot of veggies, and part of what I want them to learn is- and gardening is really so great for children, ’cause it teaches them patience, teaches them to value and appreciate their food,” she explained in a June 17 episode of the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast. “So you start from seed, and you watch it grow, and they wait. But with that, it’s like, now do you want to sell your harvest? And do you want to share it with our community?”
She added, “I think that’s key for children to understand that, especially children who are very lucky to have a home that has privilege. You need to know that, just like manners, and taking care of the things around you, there is a value on things.”
The volunteer outing comes just ahead of the family’s “low-key” Thanksgiving at home, a tradition Meghan has opened up about in the past. Her mother, Doria Ragland, lives nearby and joins them for the holiday each year, and the Sussexes often welcome friends who don’t have other plans. “I think you always make sure there’s room at the table for your friends who don’t have family, which is really key,” Meghan told Marie Claire in November 2024.
As Archie and Lili get older, Meghan says the holidays are becoming even more meaningful.
“Now we’re at the age where I just can’t wait to see it through their lens every year,” she shared. “We’re always making sure we have something fun to do.”
