- Rufai Oseni, co-host of Arise News “Morning Show,” challenged Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun regarding the extensive security detail for Seyi Tinubu.
- The challenge was made during a live television segment.
- Oseni’s remarks were in response to Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka’s criticism of the large security convoy for Seyi Tinubu.
Rufai Oseni, co-host of Arise News’ “Morning Show,” has publicly confronted Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun regarding the substantial security entourage assigned to Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu.
Oseni voiced his concerns during a television broadcast, responding to recent criticisms from Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka. Soyinka had lambasted the extensive security measures surrounding Seyi, especially given the widespread insecurity plaguing the nation.
In his widely circulated commentary, Oseni questioned the rationale behind providing such protection when ordinary citizens face the constant threat of kidnappings and violent assaults.
Previously, GistLover highlighted Soyinka’s comments, where the esteemed author denounced the “excessive” security allocated to the president’s son, deeming it inappropriate amidst the persistent vulnerability of the populace.
Amid the ensuing debate, Oseni criticized security forces for allegedly misallocating public resources to the advantage of political families. Defiantly, he challenged the authorities to consider scaling back Seyi’s security detail, using the phrase “Dem nor born am well” to underscore his skepticism.
His fiery comments and street-style phrasing quickly ignited widespread debate online.
Co-host Dr. Reuben Abati and other anchors were present during the discussion.
The programme also referenced human rights activist Omoyele Sowore’s claim that Seyi Tinubu allegedly wields more influence than Nigeria’s top security chiefs.
In his posts on Instagram and Facebook, Sowore wrote:
“Seyi Tinubu ordered the detention of NANS President Atiku Abubakar Isah by the DSS for months after he was allegedly brutalised by Seyi Tinubu’s thugs. It took intense pressure and sustained intervention to secure his release. Seyi Tinubu wield more power than the IGP, CDS, DSS, and NSA combined, #an unelected authority operating above the law.”
