Sam Mac’s idyllic winter wonderland family vacation in Switzerland has been marred by a shocking medical emergency.

The Sunrise weatherman, 42, was enjoying a snow drenched holiday with fiancé Rebecca James and their two children Margot, two, and Mabel, five months.

He took to Instagram on Thursday to reveal a ‘nightmare’ end to the dream holiday, after Rebecca fell and broke her wrist in two places, requiring surgery.

Sam shared a photo that showed him cradling his injured wife as she sat on a hospital bed with her arm in a sling.

‘It’s giving Swiss Hospital Chic. Oh Dear,’ Sam captioned the photo.

‘Nightmare end to our trip with my darling @rebeccajames_pearstudios falling on ice & breaking her wrist in two places,’ he wrote

Continuing, Sam was full of praise for his brave wife, marvelling at how well she coped with the pain.   

‘My mind is still blown by how well she withstood the pain. So so calm,’ he said.

‘She was breastfeeding Mabel on our way to emergency. Her pain threshold is honestly in another stratosphere (well she is engaged to me). 

Sam rounded out his pot by thanking the Swiss medical team before adding: ‘Feel free to ‘sling’ her some sympathy … or maybe even a collaboration opportunity for a line of bespoke new arm braces?’

The post was met with a flurry of well wishes from followers and colleagues including fellow Sunrise star Edwina Bartholomew.

‘Surely a Swiss Army Knife collab here somewhere,’ Edwina joked. 

‘Sending my best Bec. Looked like an absolutely beautiful holiday otherwise.’ 

Another follower chimed in with: ‘Bec taking this Christmas Break quite literally. Wishing a speedy recovery.’

A third summed up the sentiment of many with: ‘Poor Bec, get better! God I love how much you love her! She was worth the wait, you two are perfect for each other. 

‘Now run along Sam and fetch her whatever! Tough mama.’

Sam also shared a video that showed him hamming it up for the camera as Rebecca lay in the hospital bed.

The affable TV personality showed off his hairstyling skills when injured Rebecca sked him to put her hair clip in.

Sam obliged by quickly perching it on top of her head and offering a quick: ‘done,’ before walking away.

Captioning the light-hearted clip Sam revealed that Rebecca’s injury required emergency surgery.    

‘Wasn’t planning on ending our Christmas Holiday with Bec having emergency surgery for a broken wrist in a Swiss Hospital … but here we are,’ he wrote. 

‘It appears I can add Hairstylist to my long list of new jobs while Bec recovers.’

‘Poor darling, I hope you’re on the mend soon Bec so I’m sending love and huge healing hugs,’ one follower offered. ‘Love to you all Sam, Bec, Margot and Mabel.’ 

Sam announced in 2023 the couple were tying the knot.

He had shared the good news to Instagram alongside a photo of Rebecca flashing her diamond engagement ring.

Giving an insight into the proposal, the presenter wrote in the caption: ‘Ladies and gentlemen, my fiancée! She said yes.

‘My secret 2023 New Year’s resolution was to propose to my darling Rebecca sometime this year. So I guess this is what you’d call a buzzer beater.’

‘She’s calm, strong and unintentionally funny. She’s super smart and a genuine knockout beauty. She makes me a better man.’

Sam and Rebecca welcomed baby daughter Margot in September 2022, two years after they started dating. 

And Mabel arrived in August 2024, expanding the young family to four.
