“There were collectors we could draw from, and whether or not the piece was the exact one she wore, they were from the same collection,” Pidgeon shared with Vogue, discussing how fashion was used to evoke Bessette. “We located her Prada and Valentino coats and tailored some Levi’s to perfectly replicate how they fit Carolyn.”
She added enthusiastically, “The shoes I wore were incredible—Manolo heels, Prada boots. I definitely honed my skills at walking in heels after the show—no doubt about that.”
Although Pidgeon acknowledges the enduring mystery surrounding the late style icon, who became an unwilling public figure due to the tragic love story that ended with her and Kennedy’s untimely deaths in a 1999 plane crash, she hopes her portrayal offered a glimpse of the woman beneath the legend.
“My hope is that people feel a bit more connected to the person behind the fashion,” Pidgeon explained. “While she is celebrated as a minimalist fashion icon, I discovered she was also lively, humorous, and had a spirited side.”
