Actress and singer Serayah, along with her boyfriend, rapper Joey Bada$$, are opening up about their journey into parenthood and what’s next in their careers. In a recent interview, the couple shares insights on everything as they prepare for their first child, a son, and what’s next for their them professionally.

Serayah McNeill announced to the world that she was expecting her first child with her boyfriend in a big way. Earlier this year, the Empire actress took the runway by storm at the Adore Me Presented by Runway 7 show during New York Fashion Week, proudly sporting her baby bump.

In a new interview with Essence Magazine, the 29-year-old expectant mother told the outlet that, “the stars just aligned,” for her to announce the couple’s baby news to the world.

“The stars just aligned. We didn’t coordinate or plan anything out,” she said. “An opportunity came to me to walk in the Adore Me fashion show and I disclosed to them that I was, I think at the time, around five or six months pregnant. When they said that they were fine with it, I was like, ‘Okay, well maybe this is the opportunity, and this will be the moment.’ And me and Jo-Vaughn, we just agreed on it and it honestly was the most beautiful way. I couldn’t imagine doing it any other way. I was really big on not making my reveal feel contrived or forced. So I felt like it was really just God aligning.”

The California-native says in another portion of her interview that as she nears the “finish line,” she is doing “great” as she and Joey Bada$$ are settling in New York, awaiting the arrival of their baby boy. For both, the birth of their son marks “a new chapter” in their lives.

“We both turn 30 this year. I turned 30 in January, she turns 30 in June. So naturally, there’s a lot of transitional things happening in our lives, and it’s very, very symbolic at this point in time right now,” Joey Bada$$, whose real name is Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, told the outlet. “It’s just the beginning of a new chapter.”

Although the couple is extremely focused right now on welcoming their son to the world, they haven’t let the responsibilities of future parenthood derail career moves.

Joey recently released a freestyle called “The Finals”. Additionally, the multi-hyphenated entertainer just wrapped up Season 4 of his hit Starz series, Power Book III: Raising Kanan. And of course, he musician has “a bunch of music coming,” so staytuned. Serayah’s has also released new music with her new single, “IDFN.” She also has two film projects coming soon, R&B and a horror film, Goons, for the summer.

The couple’s baby boy will be the first child for Serayah and second for Joey. Joey is already father to a seven-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.
