Ransom Canyon is coming back for a second season — but two main characters won’t be coming back in shocking exit news.
Eoin Macken and Andrew Liner, who played father and son Davis and Reid, respectively, will not be returning as series regulars for season 2, according to Deadline. It is unclear whether they could return in a guest star capacity.
The hit Netflix series is currently in production with Ben Robson and Heidi Engerman recently added to the season 2 cast as recurring guest stars. Both newcomers are set to appear in multiple episodes as filming continues in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Based on Jodi Thomas‘ book series about a town that is full of drama, romance and hope, Ransom Canyon, which premiered in April, introduced Us to the locals in Texas Hill Country. Josh Duhamel‘s character, Staten Kirkland, was grieving two major losses in season 1 while navigating his undeniable connection to childhood friend Quinn (Minka Kelly), who has also caught the eye of Staten’s brother-in-law and love triangle rival Davis (Macken).
There was also Yancy (Jack Schumacher), who had a past he was hiding from Ellie (Marianly Tejada). Viewers further found themselves invested in a love triangle between high school students Lucas (Garrett Wareing), Lauren (Lizzy Greene) and Reid (Liner).
Liner, 24, previously teased exclusively to Us Weekly what he would like to see happen for Reid in season 2.

“He should have never gone against his family. He was trying to do the right thing and he’s figuring out what is right for him. He’s constantly in this battle of what is good,” Liner told Us in April. “I think that the most interesting stuff is going to be with his dad, with his mom and figuring out that world. Because we don’t get to see much of it in season 1 — even though it’s discussed a lot and we get to see glimpses. I am very fascinated with that.”
With Liner (and Macken) gone, that leaves two love triangles that are no longer at the center of the show. Wareing, 24, recently hinted that season 2 would be shaking things up — at least when it comes to Lucas and Lauren.
During an interview with Us earlier this month, Wareing played coy when asked whether Lucas’ brother, Kit (Casey W. Johnson), and Lauren could be a romantic possibility in the future.
“Wouldn’t that be crazy?” he teased. “Wouldn’t that up the stakes? Wouldn’t that be crazy? I can’t say anything. My hands are tied, but I will say the stakes are high and Ransom Canyon season 2 will be a joy to watch for the fans.”
Wareing also hinted that the Ransom Canyon writers pay attention to viewers.
“Our writers listen to the fans — and I’m referencing something in particular right now — but I’m not going to tell you what it is. But our writers listen and I think it’s really cool to be able to — in real time — engage with the fans and see these scripts come to life,” he noted. “I’m so delighted to be able to share these new episodes with you guys after we start shooting them [soon].”
He continued: “I’m so grateful to get to return to Ransom Canyon with my favorite people in this world. It’s thanks to all the fans on TikTok, and it’s thanks to all the fans who watched on Netflix. We get to go back and make more episodes for you because of you. So I thank the fans. They loved our show wholeheartedly and I’m grateful to get to go back and play Lucas Russell and bring more hot and steamy and sexy Ransom Canyon to TV screens.”
Ransom Canyon is currently streaming on Netflix.
