Today anchor Sheinelle Jones revealed why she has been mysteriously missing from the daytime talk show in recent weeks.

In a statement shared on social media, Jones revealed she is taking time away from the broadcast to focus on her family.

“I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show,” she wrote. “I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter.”

She continued, “It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not only the support of my Today Show family, but to also have all of you. Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon.”

Jones did not disclose any further information regarding the nature of the family matter, nor did she reveal when she’ll be back on the show.

Jones’ colleagues, Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin, also addressed her weeks-long absence at the top of the broadcast Wednesday (Jan. 15) morning.

“We know so many of you have been asking about Sheinelle and missing her. And we miss her too,” Guthrie said.

Melvin, who recently took over Hoda Kotb‘s post as Guthrie’s Today co-anchor, also wished Jones well. “Sheinelle, we miss you and we’ll see you soon,” he said.

Jones, who has been with NBC since 2014, has been missing from the daytime talk show in recent weeks. She also notably missed Kotb’s last day on the show, where all of the Today anchors reunited to wish her farewell.

She currently co-hosts the third hour of The Today Show with Melvin and Dylan Dreyer.

Many of her colleagues flooded the comments of her statement on Instagram to express their appreciation. “We love you so. Not the same without you. We will see you soon,” Guthrie commented.

Kotb, who is currently enjoying the early days of her retirement from daytime television, also commented, “We love you…. you are being held….. you are family.”

Kotb also took some time off from the broadcast in 2023 when her daughter spent some time in the ICU and was hospitalized for over a week.
