Snoop Dogg and Eminem began feuding in 2020 after Snoop said Eminem didn’t crack his top ten rappers of all time. They were only at odds briefly before they set their beef aside. By 2024, they were working together on Snoop’s album, Missionary. Snoop admitted this wasn’t easy for him.
Snoop Dogg said working with Eminem was not easy
In 2024, Snoop and Eminem collaborated on the song “Gun Smoke.” Snoop appreciated what the other rapper brought to the song.
“[T]hat motherf***er slap. It was very challenging for me, I’ll say that,” Snoop said, per Rolling Stone. “Eminem really f***ing shot at me, he shot his shot. And as a rapper, that’s what you want when you get a feature, to have to f***ing work your a** off.”
Snoop said there was a bit of competition between them, which he liked. He believed this demonstrated Eminem’s respect for him.
“You want somebody to come to the playing field, putting up points, to where you got to rethink your s*** and say, ‘Well, damn, this is what he thinks of me. That’s why he’s going so hard, because he knows that I’m going to match him on the same level,’” Snoop said. “And that’s what it is when you make records with people that you love and family. It’s competitive, but it’s competitive for the right reasons to bring the best out of each other.”
Snoop Dogg said he never meant any ill will toward Eminem
Eminem admitted he felt disrespected by Snoop’s remarks about his top ten rappers. They set aside their feud after Dr. Dre had a brain aneurysm. In the aftermath, Snoop said he had nothing but respect for Eminem.
“You got to understand we really love each other,” Snoop said. “So we don’t want the public to put a spin on something that’s not even that serious…. And we truly respect each other. So we wanted to get an understanding behind closed doors…”
He shared how they were able to move forward from the feud.
“We’re brothers, man,” he said. “You know, my [real] brother hurt my feelings a lot of times — I wanted to join a gang and he wouldn’t let me!… You learn to understand and respect each other as brothers, as family members, and you respect each other’s opinions. And as long there was no disrespect directly or ill will, then it can all be forgiven and it can all be moving on.”
He said they all learn from Dr. Dre in the studio
Snoop, Eminem, and 50 Cent worked together on “Gun Smoke” with Dr. Dre. Dr. Dre said they all worked exceedingly well together.
“The critiques come from Eminem,” Dr. Dre told Complex. “It’s like a friendly competition among us. And it’s healthy. You’ll hear it. Like the way 50 showed up on the first verse. Then Snoop comes in and then Eminem shows up and you know what the fuck it is with him and that ink pen.”
Snoop appreciated that no matter how long their careers have lasted, they were able to learn from Dr. Dre.
“We’re students,” Snoop said. “We love being in Dr. Dre’s school, we have a great time in class.”
