Insights into the royal family’s profound sorrow have emerged from a close relative of Thomas Kingston. Over a year has passed since Kingston, a financier, tragically took his own life in February 2024, and Sophie Winkleman, married to Lord Frederick Windsor—brother of Kingston’s wife, Lady Gabriella Kingston—has opened up about the ongoing impact of this loss.
“It was a significant tragedy for us all, and his absence is felt every day,” Sophie expressed in a recent conversation with The Times, published on November 12. She, alongside her husband Frederick, shares two daughters, Maud, aged 12, and Isabella, aged 9. “My girls adored him. It’s brutal,” she added, reflecting the deep affection her family held for Thomas.
The family is committed to keeping Thomas’s memory alive. “We remain in close contact with all of his family,” Sophie mentioned, referring to Kingston’s parents, Martin and Jill Kingston, and his sisters, Joanna Connolly and Emma Murray. “In many ways, it feels as if he’s still with us,” she noted, emphasizing the enduring bond they maintain with his loved ones.
And they’ve kept Thomas’ spirit alive.
“We’re still in touch with all his family,” she noted of his loved ones, which include parents Martin Kingston and Jill Kingston as well as sisters Joanna Connolly and Emma Murray, “and it feels like he’s still with us.”
Months after his February 2024 death, Thomas’ loved ones honored him publicly in June 2024 at a celebration of life event at St Mary Abbots Church in Kensington in London.
