Renowned Nigerian musician Oludipe David, who performs under the name Spyro, has voiced his worries about the deteriorating quality of modern music.

Spyro, a proponent of songs infused with meaningful content, argues that the decline in music with depth has contributed to society’s moral challenges.

In a conversation on the Adesope Live show, he commented, “In the past, artists communicated significant messages through their songs, irrespective of the genre. Nowadays, it seems we’re simply caught up in enjoying the beats without any real substance.”

“While engaging rhythms are enjoyable, I feel music has lost some of its essential value. There was a time when music would give you chills. Rhythms are great, but how can we integrate messages and values into them?”

“In as much as vibes are cool, I feel like music has lost its intrinsic value. Back then, you would get goosebumps listening to music. Vibes are cool. But how can we infused messages, values into vibes?

“A lot of the decadence that we have in the society today can be traced to the fact that music has lost its value. We are now just singing for money. A lot of us are into the business for money, not to make impact.”
