Stephen Curry made a special appearance at the Oakland screening of “Goat,” held at the iconic Grand Lake Theatre. Accompanying him were his wife, Ayesha Curry, and their four children: Riley, Ryan, Canon, and Caius.

The Golden State Warriors icon not only produced the Sony Pictures Animation film but also lent his voice to one of its characters. The movie is set to hit theaters on Friday, February 13. Ayesha Curry also contributes her voice to the film’s diverse cast.

“Basketball has opened a lot of doors,” Curry shared with the Chronicle. “I’m not looking to limit myself regarding future possibilities. My experiences in various roles have been positive. It’s crucial to find the right project and collaborate with the right team, and we’ve achieved that with every venture so far. That’s our approach moving forward, whether I’m behind the camera or in front of it.”

The movie, co-directed by Adam Rosette and Tyree Dillihay, has been in the works for seven years, tracing back to the establishment of Curry’s production company, Unanimous Media. Set in a world where animals play a basketball-like game called “roarball,” the film follows an underdog’s inspiring journey.

In “Goat,” Curry voices Lenny, a giraffe in a supporting role. The film’s ensemble cast features talents such as David Harbour, Patton Oswalt, Jelly Roll, Jennifer Hudson, Gabrielle Union, Dwyane Wade, Kevin Love, Angel Reese, and A’ja Wilson.

Stephen Curry said the project stood out to him because it features a range of characters that children can easily connect with.

“It’s got a lot of energy, a lot of comedy, a lot of action,” he explained. “But the idea is to remind yourself to dream big, surround yourself with people who believe in you. I think we all — in some way, shape or form — can resonate with that. But once you see the movie, I think you’ll resonate with a specific character that will speak to maybe your personality and your perspective.”
