For horror aficionados who eagerly tuned in to the premiere of IT: Welcome to Derry on HBO last week, the suspense is building as we anticipate the fate of young Lilly (Clara Stack), Ronnie (Amanda Christine), and Major Leroy Hanlon (Jovan Adepo). Excitingly, fans won’t have to wait long, as Episode 2 of this chilling series will be available early on HBO Max, perfectly timed as a spine-tingling Halloween treat.

IT: Welcome to Derry offers a deeper dive into the sinister world of Stephen King’s Derry, brought to life by Andy Muschietti, the visionary director behind the 2017 and 2019 adaptations of It. This HBO series transports viewers back 27 years prior to the events faced by the original Loser’s Club, setting the stage in the 1960s, long before the infamous cosmic menace, Pennywise the Clown (portrayed by Bill Skarsgård), terrorized the town.

The story begins in 1962 with the mysterious disappearance of a young boy named Matty Clements (Miles Ekhardt), who vanishes while hitchhiking in Derry. In a chilling twist, Matty encounters what appears to be an idyllic American family, only to discover they are a sinister illusion crafted by “It.” The horror escalates as Matty finds himself attacked by a grotesque winged baby outside a circus.

As months roll by without Matty, his friends rally to uncover what transpired. One of them, Lilly Bainbridge, insists she can hear Matty through the pipes. Their quest leads them to watch The Music Man, the film Matty viewed before vanishing. In a terrifying scene, Pennywise’s latest monstrous guise emerges from the screen, claiming the lives of three children, leaving only Lilly and Ronnie as survivors.

Meanwhile, Major Leroy Hanlon is newly stationed at the local Air Force base, eagerly awaiting his wife Charlotte (Taylour Paige) and son Will (Blake Cameron James) to join him. Adding another layer to the eerie atmosphere, Dick Hallorann (Chris Chalk), a familiar face from The Shining, is also spotted working on the base.
