Sunny Hostin is applauding Michelle Obama for her decision not to attend Donald Trump‘s inauguration next week.

On this morning’s episode of The View, Hostin and the rest of her fellow co-hosts agreed that it was perfectly fine for Obama not to attend the event with her husband.

“Yes, Lord. She is so right,” Hostin said. “She gave us that, ‘When they go low, we must go high.’ And I think she’s changed her tune. I think when they go low, you have to meet that energy and perhaps go even lower. Become small like an ant and go to the earth’s crust.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin added that she had “no problem” with Obama not going, but she still thought it was important for all former presidents and vice presidents to go  —  even though Trump didn’t attend President Joe Biden‘s inauguration following the 2020 election.

“I think it signals to the world that despite a very tumultuous political season that America moves forward and we’re going to have a safe and secure transfer of power, despite Donald Trump in 2020 and what he did after Jan. 6,” she said, before adding, “I think a spouse, she served her time, I don’t think she’s obligated to be there.”

Ana Navarro, meanwhile, presumed that Obama “has learned to put herself first and her mental health first,” pointing out that she did what she had to do as an outgoing First Lady back in 2017.

“When she was the outgoing First Lady, she had the Trumps to the White House, she was nice, she played nice, she went to the inauguration, she sat through that insane speech about American carnage,” Navarro said. “So I think this time she’s saying, ‘Boo, been there, done that. You’re solo on this. I’m out. I’m gonna do what’s best for my mental health.’ And I think she’s fine to do that.”

Joy Behar, for her part, praised women like Obama and Karen Pence for snubbing Trump, while simultaneously criticizing the men for attending his inauguration.

“The men are folding like cheap suits,” she said. “This is not a normal inauguration. This is not a normal person. He’s a convicted felon. Why do they go as if this is a normal inauguration? It’s not.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
