On a recent episode of The View, Sunny Hostin acknowledged New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s savvy during his recent interaction with President Trump.
The meeting, which took place last Friday (Nov. 20), ended with Trump all smiles, despite the pair’s history of public criticisms against each other. On Monday, Hostin humorously remarked that Mamdani managed to handle Trump “like a New Yorker would handle anyone.”
“We New Yorkers are unique,” she said, as Sara Haines noted that Trump also has roots in the city. “I’m from the Bronx, and Mamdani lived in Queens—it’s the classic case of game recognizing game.”
Hostin praised Mamdani for successfully navigating the conversation with Trump, given their contentious past. “Mamdani spoke Trump’s language by discussing housing and affordability,” she explained. “Trump has an interest in New York’s housing market, so it was all about business. Mamdani deserves credit for playing his cards like a true politician.”
Ana Navarro expressed her surprise at Trump’s amiable demeanor in the aftermath of the meeting, especially since Trump had recently labeled Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene a “traitor” and withdrawn his endorsement of her.
“Who would have thought? Marjorie Taylor Greene is out and Zohran Mamdani is in,” she joked. “It’s like Freaky Friday.”
Alyssa Farah Griffin, on the other hand, chalked it up to Mamdani’s charm.
“We all met Zohran Mamdani when he came here. I have a million criticisms of his policies [but] he’s incredibly charming,” she said. “He walked in with a goal of, ‘I do not want federal troops in my city, I don’t want federal government dollars cut off to my city.’”
Joy Behar did not appear too surprised by Trump’s reception of the new mayor.
“He’s always wanted the love of New York… He wants it so badly,” she said. “So, that’s to our advantage in New York, maybe. Because we need the money from the federal government.”
The ladies later ended their segment by poking fun at Trump. Many online joked that the president got a “major glow-up” when Trump was spotted wearing a rather fashionable red scarf after his meeting with Mamdani, a look that Barack Obama also sported.
“Who wore it best?” Behar asked her co-hosts.
