The stars of the original musical Wicked had a Broadway reunion, complete with an emotional duet, 22 years after they debuted in the hit production on the Great White Way.

On Thursday, Kristin Chenoweth joined Idina Menzel on stage following the latter’s performance in the Broadway show Redwood at the Nederlander Theatre.

During the encore after the play, Chenoweth came out to greet her old friend and co-star with a long and loving hug, during the effort to raise money for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDs.

‘I just had to say something, I saw the show tonight. I’m not okay. They should charge extra as people leave, you’d make more money. Just saying, it was very, very touching. I’m really proud of my friend,’ the actress, who played Galinda during the original musical run, said of Menzel, who co-starred as Elphaba.

While setting up the crowd for one more dose of Wicked magic between the famed duo, Kristin added, ‘We’ve sung this song, both of us have sung this song with other great singers, but I just got to say, there’s no place like home, girl.’

Dressed in a form-fitting black ensemble, the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma native then proceeded to begin singing the opening lines of the iconic Wicked song For Good as Menzel stood a few feet away with a big smile on her face.

The Frozen star, 53, would soon join on on the riveting duet, while dressed in black cargo pants with a blue sweater.

In a video of the reunion and performance shared on social media, the ladies held hands while gazing into each other’s eyes during the bridge of the tune.

By the time they brought down the house, the two ladies, as well as some of the audience, had shed tears of joy, according to E News.

Afterwards, Menzel picked her friend up off the ground in a warm embrace as the crowd roared with applause.

They also posed arm-in-arm together for the cameras backstage, along with another shot of them with some of the cast of Redwood.

Just last year, Menzel and Chenoweth re-teamed to make a surprise cameo in the film adaption of Wicked, starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as Elphaba and Glinda.

Portraying the leading members of the Emerald City Players, they got to sing One Short Day along with the movie’s leading ladies.

All four women would also share the spotlight on the red carpet at the premiere of the film, which was directed by Jon M. Chu, this past November.

The film adaption went on to become a huge hit with fans, raking in a whopping $747.2 million at the worldwide box office against a budget of $150 million.

The sequel, Wicked: For Good, is already set to premiere in cinemas across the world on November 21, 2025.

Wicked is loosely adapted from Gregory Maguire 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, which in turn is based on L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz and its 1939 film adaptation.

It serves as a prequel to The Wizard Of Oz, exploring the narrative before Dorothy’s arrival and delving into the former friendship between the characters Elphaba and Glinda.

The original Broadway production won a total of three Tony Awards and seven Drama Desk Awards, while its original cast album received a Grammy Award.
